Good for the beginner, can't replace a big book

Does have lots of patterns, If you have a collection of green you want to identify this is a good cheap book. The pictures are mostly on a red background, distorting the colors to an awful avocado green. The glass is much prettier than it looks. Prices are OK, divide by 2 and that is what you should pay outside of a specialty/city dealer (with no chips, no obvious wear). Boy, are some people going to hate that last sentence.

A Good Starting Point Reference Book for the Collector or Enthusiast::

My wife started to collect Green Depression Glass {GDG} over the last decade. She has a "boatload" of it but never really thought about whether she paying too much or too little for the pieces, what their actual value was / is and what companies actually made the glassware.This book was recommended to her as a collector for starting point of basic information and it did not disappoint.
Depression era glass is a large group/production of a variety of inexpensiive glassware made by a number of glassmaking companies between the early 1920s thru the mid 1940s. Despite the book's modest size of 156 pages, it's narrative is concise and informative. The contents include a brief historical perspective about GDG, concise overviews of 12 manufacturers of GDG and the GDG Era patterns / types of glass ware produced by the various companies. There was also a chapter of various miscellaneous items produced by these companies that are unusual and different from their standardized manufactures.
The photos were of excellent quality - they are all in color and are well captioned / identified by the company that produced them and the glassware pattern/design. The book gives a good overview of the considerable variety and quality of GDG from common place everyday items to pieces that are truley elegant and beautifull that belie the notion that this glassware was /is cheap and lacks artistic merit.
The used copy that we received thru the Amazon Web Site was of excellent quality. We learned a lot about many of the pieces in my wife's collection it's information and pictures. For it's modest price it is an excellent value and we give it a 5 star rating - espisically for the beginner collector - Recommended.
