About the Author

Evangelism in a post-modern world

This book gives you nothing new or radical. It simply shares, with great stories and illustrations, the fact that evangelism involves loving people where they are, not dragging them to where you would like them to be. This book takes seriously the fact that no two people are in the same place in their spiritual journey and that each person comes to a relationship with God by a unique path. As evangelists, we are not answer-givers or persuaders, but merely witnesses to what God has done in our own lives. Sometimes we may be called upon to pray with a person as they make a commitment to Jesus Christ, but only when they are led by the Holy Spirit to that point.

The book begins with brutal honesty. Evangelism as it has been practiced most often in our culture has probably driven more people away from God than it has brought to God. We still suffer from the "Gospel Blimp" mentality in most of our churches and wring our hands in bewilderment when no one responds or worse, no one takes us seriously. It confronts us with the seven deadly sins of evangelism (which made me fall on my knees screaming "mea culpa!" more than once). Then the three authors gently begin to put us back together by helping us to understand that we can repent and even recover from these sins, and with a little Biblical understanding we can actually be "effective" witnesses for the gospel of Jesus Christ in this strange place we live in called the Post-modern World.

Also, if you are using this book to teach discipleship or evangelism in your churches, the golf club analogies makes far more sense than some of the other models that have made their appearance from time to time.

For me, this is the best book of its kind. I highly recommend it to churches serious about evangelism.

My review title said it all. I learnt more in this book than all piecemeal data I acquired before despite my keen interest in this brand. The quality of the printing paper and the photos are exceptionally high. I guess Rolex might have sponsored part of publishing cost. Value for money. Recommended!

This book contains some wonderful photography and estimates for trays in perfect mint condition. I was let down by the fact that not more trays were represented, and that no apparent scale of grading used trays is given. Also, I was disappointed that not more information was given on how to tell a really old tray from a reproduction. "If you like it buy it," is just not enough of an answer for a serious collector.

I recently purchased and read this book. The photography was excellent. There was only one page where the description of the trays were inverted. The layout was done very well. Any and all Coca-Cola memorabilia collectors should get and read this book and keep it around when they go on their many tray hunts. Enjoy!!!

Worthless book

This book contains little informaton about true historical trays, how to properly grade them and tell originals from reproductions. There are much more authoritative Coca Cola tray books out there that provide accurate historical information that will help collectors of original advertising trays produced before 1960 understand how to make good decisions in buying them.

Chick Flicks: Group's Dinner and a Movie

Upon viewing the book with my Church circle group we are so excited about using this for our women's retreats. Our first one will be in October and we will be watching Fried Green Tomatoes. The book gives us menu items complete with recipes; decorating ideas, and questions to go with the movie's themes. I highly recommend this book to any women's group!!!!

Perfect for our Movie-Loving Culture!

Tonight we tried our first installment of many to come; it was a great hit! The process of creating a meal centered on the theme got the evening started off on a great foot, and allowed each one to be involved in the process. The movie redeemed Hollywood's version of life by prompting us to see spiritual applications. The conversation starters and discussion questions directed the conversation. So much fun

Great book, really fun. Perfect for a fun night for your women's group, or just to change things up a bit. Great movie selection. I have the two new ones in the series too (G-rated and the men's one Adrenaline Rush) and they're both really fun too. The movie/men's event idea is something the men at our church were already expereimenting with and this really fits the bill. If you want something kind of like this but not movie-focused, try Party Divas (by the same company); wonderful events for women without the movie angle.

A SOURCE BOOK OF BEAUTY IN MEXICAN SILVER

No matter a collector, a dealer or just in want of a beautiful coffee table book; this book is a masterpiece. Sharp creative photography takes you through a sea of ancient designs crafted into early to mid twentieth century silver jewelry.
I found it difficult not to be pulled into the art and culture of the past. And you are helped along with concise information and a fuller introduction complete with strong insight and experienced viewpoint
on the story behind these designs. The pricing, that is usually left out of great source books,
is very accurate in my opinion.
This is a major addition to my Art and Antique book collection.

A great book but not enough info on earrings

This is a great coffee table book with great photos. However, the reference information in the book is lacking. Although some pictured items have price ranges offered, many, many of the photos do not have price ranges associated with them. In addition, out of 300 pages, I was very disappointed that there were only 4 pages devoted to earrings, and with no price ranges offered. The vast majority of jewelry in this book consists of brooches, pendants, bracelets and necklaces. Earrings are a big part of any type of jewelry and there was little to none in this book. It also doesn't explain the eagle mark and what the assigned numbers to the eagle marks mean. What is "pre-eagle"? When did they start using the eagle marks? No explanation. I bought this book in used condition for a fraction of the retail cost which made the purchase worth it to me. If I had bought it new, it would not have been worth the $90 retail price tag given the lack of info mentioned above and the little or no information on or photos of earrings.

Ghosts and history make for an interesting blend

The state of Maryland has a rich, storied history as well as deep-seated cultural roots that reach into the present day. With the War of 1812, The Civil War and the stain of slavery in Maryland's past, it's not surprising that the legends and ghost stories of the state are plentiful. Authors Karen Lottes and Dorothy Pugh focus on Montgomery County to bring us some of the best lore the land has to offer.

The chapters for the most part follow a formula: we are given a detailed history of a location and those who lived there, then speculate as to whom the ghostly inhabitants might be. Although many of these tales are from "some years back" and are unsubstantiated legends, the authors also speak with many current residents of the haunted sites. The speculation paired with first-hand accounts make for a balanced, well-varied result.

Some of the more unusual offerings include a spirit who likes to "kiss" glass, leaving lip prints behind on windows and mirrors, and a house that literally "lost its marbles." An antique store's marbles constantly disappeared, never to be found again. Years later, when the building was under renovation by a private party, the marbles were discovered in all manner of strange places -- under the floorboards, in the ceilings, and even in some of the clocks! I know from experience that ghosts like to take things and hide them in strange places where they won't be found for a very long time.

Also, just as important as the ghost stories, the incredibly detailed research poured into this tome is impressive and unequivocally second to none. The book is a gem for officially recording the genealogy and historical accounts from around the region in a neat, thorough package. The history is engagingly written rather than being dry, and the stories are detailed and satisfying. Recommended reading is suggested at the end of each chapter.

Rarely do I ever award two thumbs up to a book that contains as much speculation as is found here. But in this case, the authors are such talented raconteurs and the detailed, well-researched history makes this an unusual case. All speculation needs some basis in fact, and the authors deliver their end of the deal. Not only do these stories make you think, the historical information about houses, battles and genealogy are more comprehensive than any other ghost-story book I have ever read. Period. Ah, makes me long for the house I grew up in.

Great combination of local history and ghosts

I put "local history" first in my title for this review, because it seemed to me that this book was actually much heavier on recounting history than it was ghost stories. Although there quite a few of the latter, including both historical and contemporary, there are also, in my opinion, too many of the "people say..." and "if you are in the vicinity on a dark night you might see..." speculative type stories that tend to overpopulate this type of book. However, as a resident of one of the areas covered in this book, I found the book so interesting and full of information overall that I didn't deduct a star for that. If you are also a Montgomery County resident who is interested in local ghosts viewed through a historical filter, I highly recommend this book.

full of history lessons and gripping tales

I love this book. Montgomery County, MD is a full of culture and history and it is no surprise to me that so many interesting ghost stories have been compiled about the area. MoCo has a rich civil war and underground railroad history and I am sure these are contributing factors to the presence of lingering spirits. I enjoy that this book contains a variety of stories, some funny, some scary, and some puzzling. All of them enjoyable though. I have been reading through this book and visiting some of the locations the stories are about. I don't look at those places the same afterwards. Visiting the site of the Headless Horseman a few days before Halloween was a great experience. I get the creeps when I drive by that spot to this day. In a good way.

Excellent book- great inspiration for this technique. This is a rug punch needle hooking process using a large gauge wool twisted yarn not to be confused with traditional rug hooking with cut wool fabric strips. You can achieve finer detail in your designs- such as the shading and expression in a human face.

Worth the Money

I bought this book and think it was worth the money. It has a lot of good content, color pages are of good quality and the book was constructed well. Subject matter was pretty good although Mr Owens left a few Western Movie Icons out but for the most part, I'm happy with the book and have told friends in the collecting field to get a copy. If you only buy it to see autographs of stars which will probably never come up for sale (I did for John Doucette) it's worth the price. It's a good reference guide against "Fakes".

Great journey into 1960s glamour photography

This book is my first introduction into Bunny Yeager's photography. As a photographer myself, I've always been interested in this classic style of photography as well as the fashion and overall look of the sixties. I searched all over for reviews of this book but couldn't find any so I decided to take a leap of faith and buy it. I am glad I did. What this book offers is a glimpse into a type of classic photography created during a time before ultra thin, airbrushed models. It is loaded with vibrant color images of mostly topless models in various creative poses. I am happy to add this to my collection of photography books and am already looking forward to collecting more books by Bunny Yeager. If you have even the slightest interest in sixties glamour photography you owe it to yourself to check this book out.

After the Cover Photo, It's All Downhill

This book was pretty disappointing, I am sorry to say... The cover photo of Ursula Andres is superb and promises more of the same, but nothing else ever gets close. The girls are all natural, which is nice, and a few are kinda cute, but there are no stand-outs. Some are pretty seedy, actually. It's all very 60's in terms of decor and style, but I have to say I found the furniture and wall-hangings more enticing than many of the girls. If you think you are getting Playboy quality models, slap yourself a few times and wake up. If I saw this in a store I would not have bought it, especially for what I paid. Not a winner.

Bunny Yeager is a name appropriately associated with female glamor photography. Her photographs show a wholesome beauty in a more innocent era - or at least a perceived to be. Four stars only because there are not enough photographs.
