About the Author
Lance Young is a retired Ventura County Sheriff's Captain. As such, he has worked most assignments in the law enforcement career field such as Custody (Jail System), Patrol, Administration, Homicide, and spent twelve years as a SWAT Supervisor. He was also one of the leading firearms staff and taught many varied subjects at the Ventura County Criminal Justice Academy for twenty-one years. He was an assistant professor and instructor in the Ventura College Administration of Justice Program for twenty-three years. He joined the United States Air Force in 1964 and was stationed in Korea, the Netherlands and Germany. Lance has been collecting militaria since his father's friends gave him souvenirs that they had brought back from World War II. His love for the Air Force and Law Enforcement has manifested itself in his position as an instructor at Gunsite Training Academy, helping prepare law enforcement, military, and civilians prepare to defend themselves and their families with a wide variety of weapons. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire due to back issues, but maintains his contacts and interests in the community. He resides with his wife Bonnie in Minden, Nevada.

Little known uniforms, but valuable to the uniform researcher/collector

I purchased this volume because it was the follow-on to volume 1, and would contain information on uniforms not commonly worn or seen beyond many special functions in the Air Force. It is an outstanding record of formal/semi-formal, ceremonial and evening dress, along with some of the functional uniforms for the police force, flight nurses and other distinctive uniforms. If your interest doesn't extend beyond the service dress uniforms, then this volume may not interest you, for everyone else interested in other uniforms worn by Air Force members since 1947 this volume will provide you with much more information than from any other source I have come across in the past. I have a small collection of insignia and uniforms, and I was able to identify an item based on information in this book. This alone made it worth the cost. I am eagerly awaiting the third volume which is said to cover field uniforms (fatigues, BDU, etc). If you are interested in the history of United States Air Force uniforms, this volume and volume one will be very useful to your research.

66 years of fascinating uniforms

This 2nd in a trilogy of seminal gatherings by well qualified author Lance Young builds upon the well received Volume One to present less seen, but thus, more fascinating uniforms over the years since the creation of a seperate Air Force in 1947.
Each page is a snapshot in time over the 66 years of coverage where a veteran airman can re-explore his or her era of memories
as well as the roots proceeding that time and the transitions in the years beyond. So fascinating is this five star volume that I
devoured it all in only five evenings.
While e-mailing my congratulations to the author, I was thrilled to learn from him that work on the third volume centering upon
fatique uniforms is nearly complete. 5 stars.

TOP NOTCH PICTORIAL AND HISTORICAL REFERENCE WORK

Volume II of Into the Blue, along with its Volume I counterpart, I believe is a definitive work on US Air Force uniforms. There are no other references to be found that are as comprehensive in regard to USAF uniforms. Women's USAF uniforms are also included which has been for many years ignored by other reference type books. The photography is outstanding and it is a great color photo guide along with an extensive written history. Kudos for such a great reference book. Is there going to be Volume III.
