Jeanne Mayo has more than four decades of full-time ministry experience and is a popular speaker. She's the head of Youth Leader's Coachh (www.youthleaderscoach.com) - a ministry that provides training and resources. Her thriving youth ministries have grown from letss than 100 to more than 1,000 teenagers. Jeanne is a youth pastor in Atlanta, GA.

good, yet incomplete

Three things:
1. I love Jeanne as I spent a year studying under her at the Rockford Master's Commission in the 90s. She's the real thing.
2. My personality as a teacher leaves me somewhat theologically motivated; hence my angle in the review.
3. I have been in full time youth ministry 12 years now.
I thought there was a lot of good ideas in this book. She does not use the word "hospitality" but that is essentially what the book is about: ways to make your youth ministry more hospitable. She is a natural leader and administrater and comes at it from that perspective. SHe gives good methods to abolish cliques and set a friendly tone that will make your youth group more friendly.
The reason I only give it three stars is that I felt it was incomplete. I felt that rooting these methods in the gospel would have given it more power. There was a lot of emphasis on making how to make a friendly youth ministry, but it could have used a chapter explaining how to preach the gospel in such a way as to make more friendly teenagers. I did not feel what she said was bed, just incomplete. The gospel is about a God who welcomes undeserving teenagers into his kingdom. This has a way of melting the teens heart and making them more hospitable themselves.
Having said that, I know that Jeanne has seen many unfriendly teenagers become very loving and friendly teens from the heart. Much more than I have! I just wish she would have included that bit of her ministry into this book.

Great Resource for Youth Pastors!!

If you are a youth pastor this is a fantastic tool to help breathe some life into your ministry. Jeanne's heart for youth matched together with her brilliant strategies makes this a must buy if you are looking for building an authentic and thriving youth ministry!
