E. Ashley Rooney has written a number of books in recent years on architecture for Schiffer Publishing. This is her second book exploring barns redone.

Beautiful content but no houseplans

Schiffer has published some gorgeous building and architecture books, and this one is no exception. Yet I am a bit disappointed by "Barn Again" for 3 reasons:
1) While there are plenty of lush interior and exterior color photographs, there are no plans for the featured homes. And that is such a shame, because plans would have added so much to this publication, and I would not hesitate to have given it 5 stars. Readers who are interested in conversions really appreciate this extra detail.
2) Typical of many Schiffer books, there is no summary text for each project, just brief descriptions below each photo. (Granted, there is a short general introduction for the book as a whole, but no summary for each barn conversion.) This approach can be helpful up to a certain extent, but it makes this book look like more of a photo-montage than a careful and cohesive presentation of distinct projects.
3) There is just something about the photography in this and other Schiffer publications that does not seem to age well. While this book was released in 2010, some of the photos already look a bit dated.
Still, I did not hesitate to purchase this book and I am glad to have it. For the price, though, I wish Schiffer could produce a product that has houseplans and a more detailed text.

Lovely photos, not enough content.

I guess I was hoping for a bit more in the way of design themes and suggestions. I like the book and will keep it. We plan to renovate a two-story carriage house attached to a home we recently purchased. I feel I need some concrete architectural advice and direction. Perhaps it is not possible to provide this in a broader publication like this.

Decent book depending on what you're looking for

Plenty of color photos, but for my taste all of the interior styles and rehab designs were very generic. Nothing modern, and nothing completely vintage/classically restored. Depends on your taste I guess
