Great Reference that includes all American Mid-Century Modern Glass Companies!

Just got my copy, I like the organization of the book by company - very handy and easy to use reference, I also like the Section on Designers of the era. Designers should be given much credit for these great innovative pieces. Great pictures and ads from the era! I find the pricing guide of "good, better, best" to be very helpful in searching for treasures. Thumbs up!

Great book to understand the broad perspective of glass in America

I am not sure where the glaring negative review comes from. I guess we could all find something to quibble about with any book that attempts to reconstruct history based on limited or conflicting data. I think our history books are rife with such conflicts, with those who are certain with one version of a "fact" and with others holding a completely different version. In the end, getting the history out there and sparking debate is good. Vicious attacks because one person’s version doesn't match with someone else’s seem to serve little purpose to understand our past. For goodness sake, look at how many versions there are of the Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations, and those certainly have granted far more scrutiny than glassware.
Understanding the books mission and scope is to see that it is not a book about a specific company. Clearly if the reader wanted to understand a company in depth (such as Blenko), there are countless books out there including those published by Damon C. It seems to me that Mr. Six was attempting to put companies in context with others that were producing glass at the same time, to discern the differences and to understand the geography and towns that made the glass and supported the industry. For me, as a lover of history and in particular our nation’s industrial history, the book was very informative. In the end, I am not so sure whether a specific piece of glass has the letter “M” or “L” attached to its catalog number is material to what the book is about.
I found the book invaluable for understanding the companies, the glassware they made and some of the "human" component of those companies. As it is not book about a specific company but rather a look at the companies and the glassware they made that shaped a very important industry in our nation. I found it to be fascinating, informative and the photos were exceptional to help understand and identify pieces and to see how the glass was marketed.
A great book, especially when you consider its scope - to understand the diversity, complexity and vastness of the mid-century glass industry - is a home run!

I loved it! A truly well-researched book on American glass companies that contributed glass during this Mid-Century era. It is a worthy addition to any glass collector's library.
