Visor Hats of the US Armed Forces

This book was very thorough in covering the subject matter; it consists of many color photographic examples of actual various hats worn by the Army, Marines, Navy and Merchant Marine, both officers and enlisted men or women, between the years 1930 to 1950. In addition, there is a smaller section that covers hats worn by the Red Cross, Civil Air Patrol, US Customs Service and some military hats for children during war years. Included is a specific verbal description of all hats shown by its components and construction; brims, chinstraps, material, etc.. A further benefit was a color photograph and verbal description of the metal hat insignia available by numerous manufacturers. This book is an invaluable reference source for anyone who collects or owns a military hat from this period.

Excellent reference.

This is a must-have for the collector of US military visor hats from the pre-World War II era through 1950. The work contains a huge number of high quality pictures of period hats. It has amazing variety for its narrow subject, and the author's collection is truly astounding. Examples run the gamut from more common to some very rare examples. I am an avid collector, and use Tonelli's book all the time. I do wish there was more commentary, for example describing construction techniques to help identify fakes. I would also enjoy some commentary on how he acquired this wonderful collection. Be careful, if you already are a collector, this book will likely contribute to the addiction.

This book is an excellent reference guide for collectors of US Visor Hats during WWII.
Fully illustrated full-color photographs provide valuable resources if you are going to be purchasing your items from collectibles store or online sources. This book gives superb descriptions of each item. It will absolutely help you identify authentic US Army, AAF, Navy and Marine Corps Visor Hats. A must for any WWII US Visor Hats enthusiast.
